Survey Reveals Employers Leveraging AI and Automation Screen Talent and Conduct Interviews Faster

The recently released State of Automated Interview Management: 2023 Survey Report by Phenom and Talent Board sheds light on how AI and automation technologies are transforming the hiring landscape.

The comprehensive survey, which included input from recruiters, hiring managers, and talent acquisition professionals, aimed to assess the current state of interview management, addressing challenges and exploring opportunities for improvement through the use of innovative technologies.

It identified that the most time-consuming tasks in the hiring process involve coordinating and reviewing candidate pools, scheduling interviews, and internally screening candidates. Key screening challenges highlighted include the need to quickly identify quality candidates, sift through large candidate volumes, and align reported skills with job descriptions.

Despite these challenges, the survey underscores the proactive adoption of advanced technologies by organizations to streamline their connection with the most suitable talent and achieve more favorable hiring outcomes.

Key Findings of the Survey:

  • 32% of participants reported being on track with their hiring goals. However, the integration of chatbots, texting, AI-powered interview scheduling, video interviewing, and real-time feedback systems significantly boosted the achievement of hiring goals.
  • 40% of those utilizing chatbots and texting for candidate screening successfully automated the process of offering alternative job recommendations to candidates who didn’t fit the ideal profile.
  • 26% of participants using chatbots and texting for candidate screening completed screenings in one day or less, demonstrating the efficiency gains of these technologies.
  • 80% of respondents who employed AI-powered tools for interview scheduling experienced a remarkable 36% time savings in rescheduling interviews compared to manual processes.
  • 60% of organizations utilized video technology for candidate screening, resulting in substantial time and effort savings.

Kevin Grossman, president of Talent Board, emphasized, “Our joint research report shows that screening talent and scheduling interviews remain the most time-consuming hiring tasks. Savvy organizations are using AI and automation technologies to improve overall recruiting efficiencies while simultaneously enhancing the candidate experience with personalization, speed, and convenience.

The report features compelling case studies of companies achieving impactful results through automated screening and scheduling:

  • A large healthcare system reduced the time to schedule an interview by 86%, from 7 days to just 24 hours.
  • A major appliance manufacturer achieved a 9% reduction in time to hire, with up to 78% of recruiters’ time savings attributed to AI scheduling.
  • A high-growth retail company drastically decreased the time to schedule an interview by 98%, from 5 minutes to an impressive 5 seconds.

These success stories highlight the tangible benefits that AI and automation technologies can bring to the hiring process, showcasing improved efficiency and a more positive candidate experience.
