In a recent report by talent platform Fiverr International Ltd, it’s revealed that over 70% of people in the US are now thinking more about freelancing, with 25% considering it more stable than traditional full-time jobs.
1. 18% of Gen Z in the US feel that freelancing protects them from being replaced by AI.
2. A significant 20% believe that companies no longer have loyalty to their employees, prompting nearly 70% of freelancers aged 16 to 20 to start their freelancing journey.
3. Regarding work preferences, 29% of Gen Z in the US want full control over return-to-office policies, 28% prefer a hybrid work setup, and 25% dream of entrepreneurship.
4. Concerning job security, 10% of respondents globally reported being laid off, and an additional 14% fear such situations.
5. In terms of flexibility, nearly 30% of respondents desire flexible work arrangements, including the ability to travel for work and the freedom to work from anywhere.
Fiverr Chief Business Officer Gali Arnon expressed, “The youngest members of today’s workforce, Gen Zers, have faced nothing but hurdles — a global pandemic and unprecedented development in technology. Now, in the face of layoffs and the implementation of AI across the corporate world, Gen Z workers are relying on themselves for the stability that they need to pursue their career ambitions by choosing freelancing.”
The survey, conducted in collaboration with Censuswide, gathered responses from 10,033 Gen Z members across the UK, US, Germany, and France, with more than 5,000 from the US. The data collection took place between Jan. 26 and Jan. 30.
